When HMD Global brought Nokia back into the smartphone game, they aimed to differentiate themselves from the hordes of smartphone manufacturers out there by promising timely software updates and a clean and uncluttered build of Android. After delivering the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Nokia 8, HMD Global has now announced the availability of the Android 8.0 beta for the Nokia 6.
Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global announced the Nokia phones beta lab programme a few weeks ago. After delivering the beta for the Nokia 8 (which has also received the final build) and the Nokia 5, the company has now made the beta available for Nokia 6 users as well. The company is yet to announce a date for the roll-out of the final Android Oreo build for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.
Nokia 6 users interested in giving Android 8.0 Oreo a go right now can sign up to Nokia mobile beta labs by heading to the beta labs website, singing up with their Google account and entering their IMEI number. After doing so, users will receive the beta build as an OTA update after 12 hours. Users should proceed with caution before installing the beta as it might have bugs and issues.
All Nokia smartphones, including the Nokia 6, run on a near 100 percent stock version of Android out of the box devoid of unneeded gimmicks and overlays. HMD Global also promises timely updates with the phones – both monthly security updates as well as new versions of Android.
Android 8.0 Oreo brings with it many refinements and back-end changes such as app optimisations, better battery management algorithms and so on aimed at improving the user experience. It also brings with it a host of new features such as notification channels, notification dots and the Google Play Protect malware system.
